At 3:00 p.m. of October 11th, 2020, the conference on the discipline construction of Foreign Languages and Literature was held on Yanta Campus of Shaanxi Normal University. Dang Huaixing, Vice President of SNNU, was presented at the conference. Also invited to attend the conference were some well-known experts from other universities, including Dang Zhengsheng, Vice President of Xi'an International Studies University; Chen Xiangjing, Dean of School of Foreign Studies of Xi’an Jiaotong University; Hu Zongfeng, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Northwestern University; Ma Qinglin, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Northwestern University of Political Science and Law; Hu Weihua, Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Xi'an Polytechnic University; Yuan Xiaolu, Professor of School of Humanities and Foreign Languages at Xi'an University of Posts and Telecommunications; Wang Heping, executive editor of Foreign Language Education and Journal of Xi'an International Studies University; Zhang Yi, Deputy Dean of School of Foreign Studies of Northwestern Polytechnical University; and Zhang Lin, Deputy Dean of Department of Foreign Languages of Northwest A&F University. In addition, some leaders and experts from SNNU also attended the conference, including Yao Ruoxia, Director of Department of Discipline Construction, Ma Ruiying, Director of Department of Social Sciences, and all the leaders of School of International Studies. This conference was hosted by Ma Zhengping, Secretary of CPC Sub-branch Committee of School of International Studies.
The conference was divided into two phases. In the first stage, experts discussed the discipline construction of Foreign Languages and Literature of SNNU. At the beginning, Wang Qilong, Dean of School of International Studies, extended his warm welcome to all the experts presented at the conference and his expectations of suggestions on the discipline construction of Foreign Languages and Literature of SNNU.
Dang Huaixing, Vice President of SNNU, briefed the experts about the development of Shaanxi Normal University in recent years, and put forward two expectations. For one thing, resources could be shared among universities for mutual development. And for the other, the discipline of Foreign Languages and Literature could make most of its advantages in promoting the development of our country.
Yao Ruoxia, Director of Department of Discipline Construction, briefly introduced the work of disciplinary assessment of SNNU. And Ma Ruiying, Director of Department of Social Sciences, restated the development and achievements of School of International Studies. Both of them expressed their gratitude to the experts presented.
Then, Liu Quanguo, Deputy Dean of School of International Studies, gave an overview report on the discipline of Foreign Languages and Literature from four aspects: discipline structure, scientific research, discipline construction and talent training. Focusing on the details of documents for the fifth round of disciplinary assessment of Foreign Languages and Literature of SNNU, he held further discussion with other experts. And constructive comments on the strengths and shortcomings of the assessment documents were made.
In the second stage, a seminar was held on the discipline construction of regional and international studies, with the focus on the opportunities of the discipline brought about by the times. As a new direction of Foreign Languages and Literature, regional and national studies, despite the remarkable characteristics, is faced with some difficulties in the process of development. Around the construction and development of regional national studies, participants shared their viewpoints and put forward corresponding suggestions.
This conference is of great significance to the revision and perfection of the documents for the fifth round of disciplinary assessment of Foreign Languages and Literature. While providing pioneering ideas for the discipline construction, it will further promote the development of this discipline of SNNU.
